Case Study One "The Lonesome Progressive" |

The case of SSgt Daniel Gilyeat, and MGen Dave Evans bear a striking resemblence to each other. In both cases an incumbent Democrat announced he would not run for re-election. Both of these gentlemen have sterling military records. Both are Conservatives looking to serve their country. Both were beaten by State Senators who ran late for the representative slot in their district. The experience that the sitting State Senators gained, combined with their ability to raise money due to their connections, netted them a victory. Zach Watt, an Air Force veteran running for State Congress in MO, was successful in his run. Zach is the posterboy for V4A. He is a strong conservative, plus he is 25 years old. Zach is bound for higher office. He will gain the experience and contacts to make that possible while serving as a MO State Representative. There is an advantage to growing candidates. In that light, we will present the following case study concerning a Democrat Representative in the 32nd district of Kansas. The purpose of this is to solicit your imput on tactics, and to lead you through the process of identifying and targeting an incumbent liberal for us to work to replace. The name of our study subject is Louis Ruiz. Our study starts with personal knowledge of local candidates and races, and knowledge with the district he represents. Official figures were obtainable from the Kansas Secretary of State office. Each state has such an organization that is responsible for the conduct of elections, and posting results. By clicking on that site and then on the elections & legislation link, we find the results for the 2010 primary elections. Our "Lonely Progressive" was the only dog in the race, the result was: Kansas House of Representatives 032 If you are running unopposed, in essence Ruiz won his primary and the general election with 427 votes. He never makes speeches or distinguishes himself in any way. He doesn't have to. He just sits and cooperates with the Dem leadership. The focus of this study is L. Ruiz, but if you click on the above link you will notice that only Dems ran in some of the adjacent districts. The county that Ruiz is in is strongly Democratic. So Democratic in fact that no Republican has run for that office in recent times. Demographics for the 32nd District are here. The finance report info is hard to obtain. The Dem appointee to Secretary of State, has "improved" the site and searching is hard. It is thought Ruiz had about $11,000 in assets. According to the printout from a year or more back, which was easier to access and was in fact hand written, he accepts money from health organizations, casinos, labor friendly groups and the KC area Chamber of Commerce which is a Barking Moonbat organization, very left leaning. Another standout group who's money he took was from Kansans for Life Cures (which is not prolife, but supportive of embryo stem cell reasearch). Here are the voter registration numbers by party in Wyandotte County. The county includes more districts than the 32nd but gives an idea of the numbers of voters by party.
Your Assignment This is just one case of a progressive occupying a political office. How should he be replaced? Would it be better to find a conservative Democrat to run in this race? Would it be better to run a conservative Independent? Would it be better to work to sign up more Republicans in the district to support a conservative Republican? Do you view this representative as vulnerable? Do you know someone in your area who you feel is vulnerable? Would you be willing to volunteer to solicit and assist conservative candidates to run in state and local elections? What offices do you consider important? School Board? City Government? State office? Tell us what you think write V4A by clicking here and tell us how you think you can help. We have two years to put this together.
